Moeraki Sunrise

The morning tide rolls back, exposing a line of waiting Moeraki Boulders under churning cloud cover and the orange glow of a New Zealand sunrise, invoking a sense of serenity and tranquillity. Tidal charts were consulted, and photographic equipment was set up in the predawn darkness, to capture the group of hidden boulders, also known as septarian concretions. These spherical Moeraki Boulders were formed on the ancient seabed around 60 million years ago, now uncovered by millions of years of erosion, and can weigh up to 7 tons and attain six feet in diameter.
