Crossing Guard

A buffalo calf, also known as a red dog, successfully crosses the Yellowstone River with the protective presence of its mother. River crossings after the spring runoffs have swollen the currents are one of the great dangers to the survival of these red dogs, but this buffalo matriarch is determined to help shield her calf from the violent undercurrents with flared nostrils, bulging eyes, and curing horns. The expanding ripples of their crossing cascade towards the on looker, the red dog and mother proving the power of motherhood against the Yellowstone River.
